Gunnar Fischer

Gunnar Fischer died this week, Bergman's cinematographer prior to Sven Nyqvist.  He lived to be a hundred.

  1. And Bergman lived to be 89. What do the Swedish people know about long life that they aren't telling us?

His work on Wild Strawberries was exceptional.

  2. Summer with Monika!

    I'd forgotten about this guy.

I can never draw a clear line between where the work of the director ends and the work of the cinematographer begins, but Fischer definitely had something going on.

Your pictures have something going on too. Your textures are getting stronger, bolder, subtler, BETTER. I often want to touch your images.

  3. The Devils Eye is still one of my favorite Bergman films, because it was the first that I saw.

Thanks for giving the photos some thought.
