I think it is an aquarium topped with floating orbs. A social club meets there to take lighted dips in the water in front of windows. It may be hard to see here, but small sucker fish patrol the cracks and corners, keeping it clean for all.
Is the social club made up of other fish or people?Maybe something in between.
It makes me think of rooms in The Conformist, or of the site of the dance in Il Posto.Also, the cross looks like cross-hairs; the room is about to explode.
