Scratch

I love this...


It's a little bit earth-shattering to actually see the atmosphere that some important recordings were born in.

    So much of what is beautiful about this clip is an accident (I mean that in the best way possible). It's on film, so the colours have a certain quality; the textile industry and the fashion of the day in Jamaica meant folks were wearing these BEAUTIFUL clothes (like Perry's yellow shirt!); the instruments of the day were so often gorgeous; Jamaica was in the midst of its musical golden age, and...

    yeah, I love it too.

    The way Perry throws his hands up and kinda waves them really quickly as a dance, and all his clapping, and the smiles on everyone's face: it's a beautiful youtube clip. Beautiful.

    The Jamaican music I've found most impacting is a lot trippier, weirder, and less pop-music-y than this, but there's no denying the power of these sounds.

    And WHAT A ROOM!
