I feel very satisfied.

The first snag

Last night we hit our first snag in filming.  The camera is incapable of capturing any of the planned night driving footage.  I consoled myself with taking some audio recordings of a surreal drive under a giant orange moon.

Apart from this things are going well.

Up North Day 2

A great muggy evening in the boneyard following a dusty afternoon in the old farmhouse.

Production - Up North

First day of shooting in the bag, it's flooded up here and we all have about 600 mosquito bites to show for the half dozen shots that we took.  It was great.

I'm pretty sure that we are the first people to shoot part of a film in the parking lot of the Tags in Hythe Alberta.

God's Country

Since first seeing Louis Malle's God's Country over a year ago, I have found myself returning to it and turning it over and over in my mind.  It's imagery is almost exactly the same as that of my early childhood, a small farming community in the early 80's.  This film makes me feel like I am seeing my own background in exactly the same way that I perceive it now.  The empathy that Malle has for his subject is continually satisfying, particularly when it seems a little bit misplaced.  He is hopeful and consciously naive, it is a beautiful film.
